Welcome to IATSE Local 728's Safety & Training Website

IATSE Local 728 is solely dedicated to the art of Lighting for Motion Pictures and Television productions. Chartered in 1939 we have a long and distinguished history setting the standard for both efficiency and safety on set.

IATSE Local 728 has long been a leader in the areas of Safety & Training in the Entertainment Industry. Local 728's members enjoy one of the most progressive and varied training programs found anywhere. Local 728 was one of the first Locals to place an emphasis on set safety and in conjunction with CSATTF (Contract Services Administration Training Trust Fund), created the Safety Qualified Technician Program which set the groundwork for the current Safety Pass Program. We are an active participants in several national and international organizations such as: PLASA (internationals standards writing organization); ETCP (Entertainment Technician Certification Program); and the LDI Trade Show and Convention. Through this participation, IATSE Local 728 has garnered the attention and respect of all aspects of the the Entertainment Lighting Community.

This site is constantly under development and access is limited to members of IATSE Local 728. A key resource on this site will be online orientation for several of our Skills Training Classes. Since many of these classes deal with terms and concepts that may be unfamiliar to some members, these short courses are designed to introduce these topics to you prior to your coming to the Skills Training Class. The end result of this is a better comprehension for the member and more productive class time spent with the expert instructors.

Other resources will be online class schedules & sign-ups, handouts and resources for our Skills Training classes, other seminars, podcasts of specific tasks, Instructor Bios, links to Vendors, and announcements of upcoming events like LDI, ESTA, NAB, and InfoComm.

Our training program is designed to be completely interactive. If you have an idea of something that would be useful on this site; a new Skills Training Class; or a specific Seminar; please let me know. We also have to capability to bring training to you and your crew.

In Solidarity,

Alan M. Rowe
